Superintendent's Message

Dear Brooklyn Public Schools Community,

I hope that you are enjoying your summer.  I am pleased to have begun working as the Brooklyn Superintendent of Schools.  I had multiple opportunities to transition and meet students and staff and now that I am here, I continue to be greeted by staff who are hard working and very proud of the schools.  The Brooklyn Board of Education continues to be busy.  I have had the pleasure of meeting with some of the elected officials as I transitioned and during the summer.  I also had the opportunity to see some of our Brooklyn students graduate at Woodstock Academy and Killingly High School!  They were wonderful celebrations with many proud students and families!  Congratulations to all the graduates of Brooklyn Middle School and area high schools!  I am very pleased to be part of such a wonderful school district!

This summer there are many students who are attending the summer recreation program at Brooklyn Elementary School.  A quick review of the Parks and Recreation website indicates that there will be many exciting things going on for children and adults this summer in Brooklyn!  I hope you are able to relax, have fun and keep your minds active.  Below you can learn more about the Governor's Challenges to ensure that students have opportunities to stay engaged and limit summer learning loss.

CONNECTICUT MATH ALL AROUND US: The Governor's Summer Math Challenge, more information is available at http://www.ct.gov/sde/summermathchallenge

If you drive by the schools, please be cautious of the contractors who will be working on both the BES and BMS school roofs.  This is a very big project and work has begun on the middle school roof and will begin shortly on the elementary school roof! If you find yourself in the neighborhood and would like to stop by, please do!  It has been my pleasure meeting the proud Brooklyn Public Schools community!

Please enjoy your summer!  The first day of school is on Wednesday, August 30th!

Sincerely,

Patricia L. Buell
Superintendent
